You took that big step, completed and submitted the contact form. Maybe this is your first time, or maybe you have done this before, either way, it can be a nerve wracking experience.
So, now what happens? How does it work?

The consultation session:

  • Once I receive your message, I will contact you via your preferred contact method, and we will set up your initial appointment, the free 20-minute consultation session.

  • The consultation session is where your needs are discussed and I answer any questions you may have about the process of psychotherapy.

  • It is completely optional but I highly recommend it, as it would give you an idea about my therapy style.

  • It is also important for you to see the space where your sessions will take place and feel safe there.

  • In other words, the consultation session helps us see if we can make a good team together.

  • After the consultation session, if we decide to work together, we will book your first session.

The intake session:

  • Your first session, usually known as the intake session, is unlike the following sessions, so it can feel a bit strange.

  • We will start off with going over the informed consent form and signing it.

  • Once we sign the informed consent form, I will get to know more about you and the problem that caused you to seek psychotherapy by asking you a series of questions.

  • The purpose of the intake session is for us to create the most accurate and whole picture of you.

    • In other words, I will go over all there is to know about you to help gather a picture to help us out.

      • You can expect to talk about your childhood, your family of origin, your relationships, your interests, hobbies, overall physical and mental health, and your current symptoms.

  • The intake session and the questions I will be asking are required so that a treatment plan can be formed based on your needs and goals.

  • The intake session is 50 minutes long and can sometimes take 2 sessions.

  • Once the intake session is done, we create a treatment plan and start working on your goals during your scheduled sessions.
